Dual Port 100/25GbE I/O card and Dual Port 40GbE I/O card are no longer detected/enumerated after the Jumbo Hotfix update

Symptoms

• After the Jumbo Hotfix update, Dual Port 100/25GbE I/O card (CPAC-2-100/25F and CPAC-2-100/25F-B) and Dual Port 40GbE I/O card (CPAC-2-40F-B, CPAC-2-40F-C) are no longer detected/enumerated.
• On attempting to install Jumbo Hotfix, the following CPUSE error message is printed: "Outdated CPAC-2-100/25F, CPAC-2-100/25F-B, CPAC-2-40F-B, or CPAC-2-40F-C firmware version detected. Firmware must be manually updated following sk182403"

Cause

The latest version of mlx5_core driver (5.8-2.0.3) is not compatible with older firmware versions on Dual Port 100/25GbE I/O card (CPAC-2-100/25F and CPAC-2-100/25F-B) and Dual Port 40GbE I/O card (CPAC-2-40F-B, CPAC-2-40F-C).

The problem has been confirmed with mlx5_core driver 5.8-2.0.3 and network interface cards using firmware version 12.12.3072 or 12.17.1026. (Note that any firmware version prior to version 12.26.6402 should be updated.)

Solution

This problem was fixed. The fix is included in:

• Jumbo Hotfix Accumulator for R82 starting from Take 44
• Jumbo Hotfix Accumulator for R81.20 starting from Take 119
• Jumbo Hotfix Accumulator for R81.10 starting from Take 183

If you choose not to upgrade, before applying the Jumbo Hotfix update, refer to sk141812 for instructions on how to manually update the firmware on the network interface cards.

If you have installed the Jumbo Hotfix update and the network interface cards are no longer detected:

1. Revert the Jumbo Hotfix installation.
2. After the revert, validate that all network interface cards are enumerated and detected.
3. Go to sk141812 and download the appropriate firmware update hotfix for the Gaia version you are updating.
4. Install the hotfix, which will update the firmware and reboot the machines.
5. After the reboot, validate that all affected network interface cards are running a minimum firmware version of 12.26.6402 (use this command: ethtool -i <intf>).
6. Proceed with the Jumbo Hotfix installation.

If the CPUSE error message is printed:

1. Go to sk141812 and download the appropriate firmware update hotfix for the Gaia version you are updating.
2. Install the hotfix, which will update the firmware and reboot the machines.
3. After the reboot, validate that all affected network interface cards are running a minimum firmware version of 12.26.6402 (use this command: ethtool -i <intf>).
4. Proceed with the Jumbo Hotfix installation.
