# PDPD process crashes and becomes unresponsive

**Product**: Identity Awareness
**Version**: R81.10 (EOS), R81.10.X, R81.20, R82
**OS**: Gaia, Gaia Embedded
**Last Modified**: 2026-05-26

## Symptoms
- Users are unable to access resources due to access role-based policies.
- The PDP daemon is either not running or not responding to PDP command.
- In the environment, there exists an LDAP Authentication Unit (AU) with no processors for authentication.
- The _fetch_by_SID_ feature is enabled.
- Debug lines before the crash, _empty domain SID. We tried all AU but could not locate domain SID_.

## Cause
The issue occurred because an Account Unit lacked authentication processors. When the PDPD process tried to authenticate a user with _fetch_by_SID_ enabled, it triggered a problematic flow, leading to a PDPD crash on every authentication attempt.
