RAD Query Failure: HTTP 414 Error (Request-URI Too Long)
Product: Threat Prevention, URL Filtering
Version: Other
Last Modified: 2025-06-23
Symptoms
- RAD queries fail, generating "wrong status code in reply" errors logged in $FWDIR/log/rad_events/Error/.
- The HTTP status code returned is 414 (Request-URI Too Long), indicating the request URI exceeds server limits.
- Specific resources may exhibit slow loading times or become inaccessible.
Cause
The default HTTP server request URI length is limited to 4096 characters. This issue occurs when a RAD query generates a URI exceeding this limit, resulting in the server returning a 414 error.
