Cause

Changes in the Gaia OS after an upgrade to the R81.20 Jumbo Hotfix Accumulator Take 99 or Take 105 do not allow to correctly install the firmware update for the 40/100 GbE Line Card.

Solution

This problem was fixed. The fix is included in:

If you cannot install R81.20 Jumbo Hotfix Accumulator Take 111, then follow the applicable procedure below.

Important Note - Schedule a full maintenance window.

Workaround - If you installed the R81.20 Jumbo Hotfix Accumulator Take 105:

  1. Connect to the command line on the appliance.
  2. Log in.
  3. If the default shell is Gaia Clish, go to the Expert mode: expert
  4. Get the current firmware version: ethtool -i <Name of Line Card Interface> Example output: [Expert@MyGW:0]# ethtool -i eth1-01 driver: mlx5_pci version: DPDK 20.11.7.4.0 (14 Nov 24) firmware-version: 28.39.2048 [Expert@MyGW:0]#

If the firmware version number is "28.39.2048", then ignore the error message. No additional action is needed. If the firmware version number is NOT "28.39.2048", then follow these steps:

  1. Download this firmware to your computer: fw-ConnectX7-rel-28_39_2048-checkpoint_cx7_nic_2p_100g_sh_pcie_gen5_x16_cbl_lk_Ax-UEFI-14.32.17-FlexBoot-3.7.300.signed.bin
  2. Copy the firmware file to the appliance to some directory (for example, /var/log/). Important - If you use WinSCP or FTP, make sure to copy the file in the binary mode.
  3. Connect to the command line on the appliance.
  4. Log in.
  5. If the default shell is Gaia Clish, go to the Expert mode: expert
  6. Move the firmware file to the required path: mv -v /var/log/fw-ConnectX7-rel-28_39_2048-checkpoint_cx7_nic_2p_100g_sh_pcie_gen5_x16_cbl_lk_Ax-UEFI-14.32.17-FlexBoot-3.7.300.signed.bin /opt/CPbios_upg/bin/
  7. Reboot the appliance: reboot
  8. Get the current firmware version: ethtool -i <Name of Line Card Interface> The output must show "28.39.2048".

Workaround - If you installed the R81.20 Jumbo Hotfix Accumulator Take 99:
