Spark Firewall Pro models - R82.00 upgrade restrictions

Solution

Starting from version R82.00.10, Pro models can run both R81.10 code and R82.00 code.

Upgrade to R82.00 is supported only for Pro devices (1535 / 1555 / 1555 / 1575 /1575R / 1595R / 1600 / 1800 / 1900 / 2000).

Other models (for example, 1530 / 1550 / 1570 / 1590) are blocked from this upgrade by default. Attempting to use Central Deployment to upgrade does not prevent the process from occurring, but the appliance upgrade is blocked from the gateway side.

There are two upgrade scenarios:

• When managing the gateway firmware via Quantum Spark Management (see the Quantum Spark Management Administration Guide > Configuring Services > Firmware).

You can do the configuration in either the Plan object or Gateway object.

• When upgrading directly from the Security Gateway (see the R82.00.X Locally Managed Administration Guide > Device > Backup, Restore, Upgrade, and Other System Operations topic > Firmware Management > Manual Upgrade).

Dual upgrade behavior:

• If the Gateway firmware is R81.10.15_GA or higher, a direct upgrade to R82.00 is supported.

• If the Gateway is running R81.10.10 or lower versions:

If managed directly, you will get a recommendation to upgrade the gateway to version R81.10.17. After you perform that upgrade, you get a new recommendation to upgrade to R82.00.10 and higher.

If managed by Quantum Spark Management, the gateway will first automatically upgrade to R81.10.17 and then to R82.00.10 and higher.
