# How to Install a License

## Solution

## Installing a Local License through CLI

- To install manually:

**Note**: For Maestro environments, refer to [sk163323](https://supportcenter.checkpoint.com/supportcenter/portal?eventSubmit_doGoviewsolutiondetails=&solutionid=sk163323).
1. Connect to command line.
2. Log in to Expert mode.
3. Run the following command:

_[Expert@HostName:0]# cplic put <IP Address> <Expiration Date> <License String> <Features>_

Note: The required syntax is sent to you by e-mail when the license is generated, and can be seen in the license in your [Product Center](https://usercenter.checkpoint.com/usercenter/portal/media-type/html/role/usercenterUser/page/default.psml/js_pane/AccountsId%2CProductsCenterId) account (at the top, click on ASSETS / INFO menu - go to ACCOUNTS & PRODUCTS section).

- To import the license from a License File:

**Note**: For Maestro environments, use the “`g_cplic`” command instead of the “`cplic`” command.
1. Connect to command line.
2. Log in to Expert mode.
3. Run the following command:

_[Expert@HostName:0]# cplic put -l </path_to/Name of Licence file>.lic_

Note: The license file is sent to you by e-mail when the license is generated, and can be downloaded in your [Product Center](https://usercenter.checkpoint.com/usercenter/portal/media-type/html/role/usercenterUser/page/default.psml/js_pane/AccountsId%2CProductsCenterId) account (at the top, click on ASSETS / INFO menu - go to ACCOUNTS & PRODUCTS section).

Alternatively, you can import the license from a License File via " _cpconfig_" menu.

**Notes:**

- Central Licenses _**must**_ be installed via SmartUpdate.
